Free

A lot has happened over the last year. And I'd like to say that I grew from it. Finally being able to see what can't be changed and accepting it for what it is, is so liberating. I hope that this new year brings smiles for miles to everybody I know. Even though life is pretty difficult right now, I realized that the smallest things that I've taken for granted is so beautiful if I get the chance to stop and think about it. Like this:

The glass on the camera of my phone cracked, so it's kind of blurry around the edges. But a couple of friends and I were driving down this highway and it literally looked like this for 20 minutes. Just water on either side of us and a road headed for the horizon. The sky had no clouds whatsoever and the shade was just jaw-dropping.

I realized on that day, that even when everything's going wrong, we should stop and think that the world is so much bigger than us, than just one person. Life is going to have its GREAT moments, and then it's going to have its bad moments. We can't expect to have no problems, otherwise that just wouldn't be life. Struggles and obstacles are what makes us mature. Even after all the pain and unnecessary troubles in my life, I'd still go back and make the same decisions if I were ever given a chance. I've learned so many things, even if it was the hard way.

We can only hope to use the past as a learning experience, helping us build stronger and better relationships. Otherwise "history repeats itself, first as tragedy, second as farce" as Karl Marx once wrote. There would be no point in going through a harsh situation and only coming back to a similar, if not the same one, and making the exact decision AGAIN. Every day is a gift, and I plan on gladly accepting it day by day with an open mind.
